Greo January '07

We're just back from another two weeks at Greolieres. Full of great company, beautiful scenery and mellow flying (and all cars still intact). Week one saw changeable weather from ranging from UK summer temperatures when we arrived to a substantial snowfall on the Tuesday… Condolences to Richard who broke his ankle on a slightly fast landing after an otherwise perfect flight.

The second week gave us more typical Greolieres weather with wall to wall blue sky most days and flying on every single day. Highlights have to be a busy day at Monaco (I wonder if James has stopped smiling now after his three and a half hour flight) and the last afternoon at Col de Bleyne with various people climbing out nicely.

Thanks to Ben (who is walking normally again) and Karen for your usual wonderful hospitality and a new departure with the last night music quiz and of course to John, Mike and Kim.

End of ‘06

No sooner had the summer started than it went downhill with one of the most unsettled Augusts in my memory. The autumn and early winter were not much better so not as much progress as we'd usually expected over the course of 2006. Such is paragliding in the UK… Congratulations go to these people who've completed their CPs during the second half of the year (and in no particular order);

Summer here now?

This last week has felt almost like summer. I suppose it should be now it is well into June... We have at last had a decent run of flyable days with a load of Taster Days completed and some keen new EP students.

7 Days flyable at Greolieres again

Yet another week at Greolieres with flying on seven days, though, truth be told, the weather wasn't up to its usual consistent best. Despite the slow start there was plenty of excitement, what with rock balancing, abseiling catapillars, landrover rolling, reserve deployments and so on…

Tom and Martin complete their CP, James gets his top landings.

Tom Arnold and Martin Butcher are now fully qualified CP pilots with comfortable exam passes over the last few days. They are both already very experienced aviators with Tom coming from a Freefall parachuting background and Martin being a Hang-glider pilot from way back.

James Learmont managed a fine top landing at Telegraph to tick off the practical side of his CP tasks, now just a bit of theory to get the ticket. James timed his take off to perfection finding plenty of lift and indeed seemed to be having some trouble getting back down. Five minutes of figure-of-eighting behind the take-off did the job though I was concerned for a while as it did remind me of a similar flight of his just a few weeks previously where 500' above take off still ended with a bottom landing! See you at Greolieres soon.
