"We have known Andrew Pearse for almost twenty years,
and he has traded with us since he first set up Flying Frenzy.
Quite apart from being a thoroughly good bloke and a sickeningly
brilliant pilot, Andrew seems to have the ability to turn out
very competent pilots. We always recommend him to people looking
for a school, because we know they will get the best service." Simon
Murphy, Firebird UK .
Weather
XC
weather is one of the most useful sites around -
it shows you at a glance what the wind is up to and even has a
detailed wind forecast for the next few days. Portland and Yeovilton
are the stations closest to our hills. Always add a bit to get
an idea of the wind speed out on the hills. Recently it seems
safe to double what it says at Yeovilton (especially for Telegraph
and Eggardon).
BBC
Atlantic Pressure chart gives a nice clear synoptic chart with forecast charts
for the next five days too.
Met
Office rain radar - shows where it is raining across the county and is
usually updated every half hour.
BBC local
forecast - A quick forecast for our area. Note the wind speeds are
usually very much higher than the BBC suggest.
Clubs
Geographically Flying Frenzy PARAGLIDING sits between
these two recreational clubs. Once you have learnt how to fly you
will need to join a club and it may well be one of these;
Devon
and Somerset Condors
The Condors have a great selection of cliff sites from
West Bay all the way round to Exmouth as well as many inland.
Wessex
HPG club
Wessex members fly sites from near Weymouth to East Dorset and
the club actually owns Bell Hill, one of the best XC sites in
the south of England.
BHPA
The BHPA
is our sport's overseeing body and has an informative and useful
site.
